Description
Glyphosate is a widely used broad-spectrum herbicide, and its presence in food and water is strictly regulated by authorities across the US, Europe, and Asia. A method was developed for the analysis of glyphosate in fruit juices and teas using the Zodiac HST N column, which operates through a combination of HILIC and ion-exchange mechanisms. Glyphosate is effectively retained via ion exchange. Uniquely, the method employs a highly aqueous mobile phase—uncommon for typical HILIC applications—which prevents interference from sugars, vitamins, and other matrix components in juice samples. Juices spiked with glyphosate were analyzed, and this method can be coupled with LC/MS for highly sensitive detection of glyphosate in a variety of samples, including fruits, vegetables, and both ground and drinking water.
