Description
Zodiac HST N columns are designed for the separation of both weak and strong organic acids using mixed-mode HILIC. Compounds such as benzoic acid and naphthalenesulfonic acid are retained through a combination of polar interactions and anion-exchange mechanisms. The retention time and elution order can be adjusted by modifying the mobile phase composition. Changes in mobile phase pH influence the ionization states of both the analytes and the stationary phase, thereby affecting separation. A rapid and reliable quantitation method for benzoic and naphthalenesulfonic acids can be developed using UV, ELSD, or LC/MS detection. This HPLC approach is suitable for analyzing mixtures containing both organic and inorganic acids, whether strong or weak.
