Simultaneous Quantitation of Potassium Ion and Organic Compounds Using Mixed-Mode HPLC

Home Simultaneous Quantitation of Potassium Ion and Organic Compounds Using Mixed-Mode HPLC

Description

This method demonstrates the quantitation of potassium (K⁺) using a mixed-mode HPLC column, Zodiac HST OG, which enables the simultaneous separation of inorganic ions and organic compounds. The separation was achieved on a 250 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm Zodiac HST OG column with a mobile phase consisting of Water/Acetonitrile/Trifluoroacetic acid (40/60/0.2) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min.

Detection was carried out using both UV at 245 nm and ELSD to monitor the starting material, product, and potassium ion. The strong retention and distinct separation of potassium, starting material, and final product highlight the column’s ability to resolve hydrophilic ions along with organic compounds in a single run. This makes the method ideal for tracking ionic species and organic transformations in pharmaceutical and synthetic workflows.
