Description

Pterins are crucial biomolecules involved in neurotransmitter synthesis, immune response, and cellular metabolism.

  • Biopterin: A coenzyme essential for the production of serotonin, dopamine, and nitric oxide, playing a role in vasodilation.

  • Rhamnopterin: A biopterin derivative with potential cancer-preventive properties, reducing liver tumor incidence in dietary studies. It also serves as an internal standard for pterin quantification in plasma.

  • Neopterin: A metabolic byproduct of guanosine triphosphate (GTP), commonly used as a biomarker for immune activation in conditions such as viral infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.

These pterins can be retained, separated, and analyzed using a Zodiac HST OG reverse-phase column (4.6 × 150 mm, 5 µm, 100 Å). The mobile phase consists of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate buffer. Detection is performed via UV at 275 nm, ELSD, CAD, or ESI-MS.
