Description
Fentin, an organotin fungicide, presents analytical challenges due to its organometallic nature and moderate polarity. The Zodiac HST OG column, with its robust mixed-mode chemistry, was used to retain and separate Fentin under gradient conditions. The separation employed a dual-gradient strategy—both in solvent strength (MeCN/H₂O) and buffer concentration (AmFm, pH 3.0)—to fine-tune retention and resolution.
The 15-minute gradient with a 7-minute hold enabled controlled elution and sharp peak formation, while the mixed-mode retention allowed simultaneous exploitation of hydrophobic, hydrogen-bonding, and ionic interactions. The low UV detection wavelength (270 nm) ensured effective monitoring of Fentin’s aromatic structure.
This method is suitable for sensitive and reproducible quantitation of Fentin and can be adapted for environmental, agricultural, or residue analysis in complex matrices. The Zodiac HST OG column demonstrated excellent selectivity, robustness, and reproducibility under these analytical conditions.
