Peak Symmetry Study with Amitryptiline

Zodiac HST B has been effectively utilized for the analysis of amitriptyline, a tertiary amine frequently used as a probe to assess silanol activity on reversed-phase columns. On traditional C18 phases, amitriptyline often exhibits peak tailing unless mobile phase additives like triethylamine or high ionic strength buffers are introduced. The Zodiac HST B column, with its embedded cationic functionality, minimizes peak tailing by repelling the amitriptyline cation and shielding silanol groups. The method delivers excellent peak symmetry using a mass spectrometry-compatible mobile phase of water, acetonitrile (MeCN, ACN), and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA).
