Description
Histamine is a basic compound that functions as a neurotransmitter, while phenethylamine is a naturally occurring amine alkaloid with psychoactive and stimulant properties. It is produced through the enzymatic decarboxylation of phenylalanine and also acts as a neurotransmitter. Both histamine and phenethylamine can be efficiently separated in a single HPLC run using Zodiac HST C and Zodiac HST OG2 columns, which utilize a reversed-phase cation-exchange mechanism.
The Zodiac HST C column offers shorter retention times, enabling separation of both compounds in under 5 minutes. Unlike traditional methods, Zodiac HST C and Zodiac HST OG2 columns do not require external ion-pairing reagents, as the ion-pairing functionality is integrated into the surface chemistry of the Zodiac silica gel.
This method is suitable for the analysis of histamine and phenethylamine in biological matrices such as plasma, blood, and urine, and is compatible with UV, ELSD, CAD, or LC/MS detection.
