HPLC Separation of Aminobiphenyls on Zodiac HST RP Column

Home HPLC Separation of Aminobiphenyls on Zodiac HST RP Column

Description

Aminobiphenyls are positional isomers that differ by the location of a primary amine group on the aromatic ring. Isomers such as 2-, 3-, and 4-aminobiphenyl are effectively separated using the Zodiac HST RP mixed-mode column through a combination of reversed-phase and ion-exclusion mechanisms, resulting in sharp peak shapes and short retention times.

The elution order of 2- and 3-aminobiphenyls can be reversed by using ammonium formate buffer without pH adjustment, offering flexible selectivity.

The HPLC method employs a mobile phase of water, acetonitrile (MeCN/ACN), and ammonium formate or acetic acid (HOAc), with UV detection at 250 nm.
