HPLC – MS Method for Analysis of Paraquat on Zodiac HST TH Column

Paraquat is a broad-spectrum, non-selective herbicide that has been extensively utilized in agriculture for effective weed control since its introduction in the mid-20th century. Its rapid action and effectiveness make it a valuable asset in crop management. However, the application of paraquat is accompanied by serious safety concerns due to its high level of toxicity, requiring stringent handling procedures.

Analytical Method for Paraquat:

Paraquat can be efficiently retained and analyzed using the Zodiac HST TH mixed-mode stationary phase column. The method employs an isocratic elution technique with a straightforward mobile phase composed of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate as a buffer. Detection is carried out using Evaporative Light Scattering Detection (ELSD), or alternatively, other evaporative-based detection methods such as Charged Aerosol Detection (CAD) or Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS).
