Description
Naloxone is an opioid antagonist used for overdose reversal, rapidly displacing opioids from receptors and restoring normal respiration. Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist that helps in opioid dependence treatment by reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms while minimizing euphoric effects.
When combined in medications like Suboxone, naloxone discourages misuse by inducing withdrawal if injected, while buprenorphine provides therapeutic benefits when taken as prescribed.
Analytical Method:
Naloxone and buprenorphine can be retained, separated, and analyzed using a Zodiac HST OG mixed-mode stationary phase column. The analysis employs an isocratic mobile phase comprising water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate buffer. Detection is performed using UV at 269 nm, ELSD, or other evaporative detection techniques like CAD or ESI-MS.
