Description
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is an effective method for analyzing Kinetin, a cytokinin phytohormone that promotes cell division, growth, and delays aging (senescence) in plants. Discovered in 1955, kinetin plays a significant role in plant tissue culture, agriculture, and cosmetics. It promotes cytokinesis, shoot formation, and nutrient mobilization while delaying leaf senescence by maintaining chlorophyll levels. Kinetin is widely applied in plant tissue culture for shoot initiation and regeneration, in agriculture to improve crop yields and extend the shelf life of produce, and in cosmetics for its anti-aging properties. It binds to cytokinin receptors in plants, triggering gene expression changes that stimulate growth and balance with auxins for optimal root and shoot development. Kinetin can be retained, separated, and analyzed using a ZODIAC HST OG2 mixed-mode stationary phase column. The analysis employs an isocratic method with a mobile phase comprising water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and formic acid as a buffer, with detection at UV 273 nm.
