Climbazole is an antifungal agent widely used in hair care products, particularly in shampoos, for the treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It functions by targeting the fungi responsible for these conditions.

Mechanism of Action:
Climbazole inhibits fungal growth by disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption compromises membrane integrity, leading to fungal cell death.

Applications:

• Hair Care: Climbazole is commonly used in anti-dandruff shampoos and lotions to control the growth of Malassezia yeast on the scalp, which is often linked to dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.

• Skincare: It is occasionally used in topical formulations for managing fungal-related skin issues.

Analytical Method:
Climbazole can be retained and analyzed using a Zodiac HST B mixed-mode stationary phase column. The method employs an isocratic elution with a mobile phase consisting of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate as a buffer. Detection is carried out using UV at 270 nm.
