Home HPLC Method for Analysis of Prednisone on Zodiac HST B Column

Description

Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid belonging to the glucocorticoid class. As a prodrug, it becomes biologically active only after conversion in the liver to prednisolone, its active metabolite. Both compounds possess anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties and are widely used across multiple therapeutic areas.

Key Medical Applications:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Used in managing conditions such as arthritis, allergic reactions, and inflammatory bowel diseases.

  • Immunosuppression: Prescribed for autoimmune diseases and to prevent rejection in organ transplantation.

  • Respiratory Disorders: Commonly used in treating asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Analytical Method:

Prednisone can be effectively retained and analyzed using a Zodiac HST B mixed-mode stationary phase column. The method utilizes an isocratic mobile phase composed of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and sulfuric acid as a buffer. Detection is achieved using UV at 245 nm, providing reliable results for quantitative analysis.
