HomeHPLC Method for Analysis of Cyanamide, Dicyandiamide and Urea on Zodiac HST S1 Column
Description
Cyanamide (H₂CN₂) is a highly reactive and toxic chemical utilized in the production of fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial compounds. It also serves as a soil fumigant for controlling pests and weeds.
Dicyandiamide (C₂H₄N₄) is a white crystalline compound widely employed as a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. Additionally, it is used in pharmaceuticals, dyes, resins, and as a nitrification inhibitor in agriculture to minimize nitrogen loss.
Urea (CO(NH₂)₂) is a nitrogen-rich solid extensively used as a fertilizer. It also finds applications in the manufacture of plastics, adhesives, resins, animal feed, and various industrial chemicals. In the cosmetics industry, it is valued for its hydrating properties.
These three compounds—cyanamide, dicyandiamide, and urea—can be efficiently retained, separated, and analyzed using the Zodiac HST S1 normal-phase mixed-mode column. The analysis is performed with a mobile phase composed of water and acetonitrile (MeCN) without any buffer, and detection is carried out via UV at 200 nm.
