HPLC Method for Analysis of Cetylpyridinium Chloride on Zodiac HST RP Column

Home HPLC Method for Analysis of Cetylpyridinium Chloride on Zodiac HST RP Column

Description

Cetylpyridinium Chloride is an antiseptic compound commonly used in oral and throat care products, such as mouthwashes and dental treatments. The Zodiac HST RP mixed-mode column effectively retains cetylpyridinium through a combination of reversed-phase and anion-exchange interactions.

The column’s anion-exchange capacity can be finely tuned by adjusting the trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) concentration in the mobile phase, while its reversed-phase retention is controlled by the percentage of acetonitrile (MeCN/ACN). The HPLC separation is achieved using a mobile phase consisting of water, acetonitrile, and TFA, with detection performed at 250 nm (UV).

This method offers reliable separation and quantitation of cetylpyridinium chloride and can be adapted for similar cationic surfactants in pharmaceutical and personal care formulations.
