Home HPLC Method for Analysis of Bupivacaine on Zodiac HST B Column

Description

Bupivacaine is a local anesthetic commonly used to block nerve signals and provide pain relief during surgeries, labor and delivery, or dental procedures. It is typically administered by injection into the area requiring anesthesia.

Available in both injectable solutions and topical patches, bupivacaine is known for its long-lasting effects, making it suitable for extended procedures or postoperative pain control.

Like all medications, it carries potential risks, including low blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms, and, in rare cases, serious reactions like seizures or cardiac arrest. It should always be administered under medical supervision.

Analytical Method:
Bupivacaine can be effectively analyzed using a Zodiac HST B reverse-phase column (4.6 × 150 mm, 5 µm, 100 Å). The method employs a mobile phase of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate as a buffer. Detection is performed using UV at 250 nm.
