HPLC Isocratic Analysis of Ascorbic Acid and Sodium Metabisulfite on Zodiac HST- SB Column

Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and sodium metabisulfite are important compounds with various uses. Sodium metabisulfite (S2O52−) is commonly used as a source of sulfur dioxide in wine production, as a bleaching agent in coconut cream production, and as a preservative in anesthetic solutions to prevent oxidation and extend shelf life. Ascorbic acid, found in citrus fruits and vegetables, is essential for maintaining the health of skin, bones, teeth, and blood vessels. These compounds can be separated, retained, and analyzed using a Zodiac HST SB mixed-mode stationary phase column with an isocratic method. The mobile phase consists of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) as a buffer, with detection at UV 270 nm.
