HPLC Determination of Thymol and Carvacrol on Zodiac HST B Column

Thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) and Carvacrol (5-isopropyl-2-methylphenol) are key constituents of essential oils derived from plants in the Lamiaceae family. These compounds are gaining attention as alternative antimicrobial agents, particularly effective against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria.

Thymol and Carvacrol can be effectively retained and analyzed using a Zodiac HST B mixed-mode column under a simple isocratic HPLC method. The mobile phase consists of acetonitrile (MeCN), water, and phosphoric acid as the buffer. Detection is performed using UV at 200 nm, offering high sensitivity and resolution.
