HPLC Determination of Desmosine on Zodiac HST C Column

Desmosine and isodesmosine are distinctive amino acids found in elastin, a protein present in connective tissues such as elastic arteries, lungs, and skin.These compounds serve as specific biological markers for the breakdown of mature, cross-linked elastin.

Desmosine can be detected at 270 nm using the Zodiac HST C mixed-mode reversed-phase cation-exchange column. The analysis is performed with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile (ACN) and water, with an ammonium acetate buffer to ensure precise separation and detection.
