HPLC Determination of Carvacrol on Zodiac HST B column

Carvacrol (5-Isopropyl-2-methylphenol) is a major constituent of essential oils derived from plants in the Lamiaceae family. Along with thymol, carvacrol exhibits strong antimicrobial properties and is considered a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics, particularly against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria.

Carvacrol can be effectively retained and analyzed by HPLC using the Zodiac HST B mixed-mode column. The method employs a simple isocratic mobile phase composed of acetonitrile (MeCN), water, and phosphoric acid as the buffer. Detection is performed using UV at 200 nm, making it suitable for routine analysis of phenolic compounds in essential oils.
