HPLC Analysis of Alpha-Arbutin on Zodiac HST- S3 Column

Home HPLC Analysis of Alpha-Arbutin on Zodiac HST- S3 Column

Description

Alpha-arbutin is a naturally occurring compound found in plants such as bearberry, cranberries, blueberries, and pears. It is a glycoside derivative of hydroquinone, where a glucose molecule is attached to hydroquinone. Alpha-arbutin is primarily known for its skin-lightening properties, often used in skincare products to reduce hyperpigmentation like dark spots and age spots. It works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is involved in melanin production, thereby lightening skin tone. Alpha-arbutin can be retained and analyzed using a ZODIAC HST S3 mixed-mode stationary phase column. The analysis employs an isocratic method with a mobile phase of water and acetonitrile (MeCN). Detection is achieved using UV at 225 nm.
