
Description
Amphotericin B is a broad-spectrum antifungal from the polyene class, used to treat serious fungal infections.
Mechanism of Action
- Binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, disrupting integrity and causing cell death. 
Spectrum of Activity
- Effective against Candida, Aspergillus, Cryptococcus neoformans, and various molds. 
Clinical Use
- Used for severe fungal infections but requires careful monitoring due to potential toxicity. 
Amphotericin B can be retained and analyzed using a Zodiac HST OG mixed-mode column with an isocratic method employing water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and sulfuric acid as a buffer, with Vis detection at 408 nm.
