Description
Alachlor is a herbicide that acts by inhibiting the gibberellin biosynthesis pathway. Its use has been banned by both the European Union and the U.S. EPA due to safety concerns. The European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) included alachlor in a multiresidue pesticide analysis of teas and chamomile using both liquid and gas chromatography techniques. A single multiresidue method was developed utilizing Primesep B2 and Zodiac HST TH columns to cover a broad range of pesticides. The Zodiac HST TH column features embedded ionic and hydrophobic groups for refined separation, while the Primesep B2 column incorporates embedded basic ion-pairing groups. The method is LC/MS compatible and offers a robust approach for analyzing alachlor and related pesticide residues.
