Denatonium Benzoate is the most bitter compound ever discovered, with several applications, including denaturing ethanol, mimicking the bitter taste of certain pills, and serving as a biochemical warning to prevent the consumption of harmful substances such as methanol, acetone, and paint. Denatonium Benzoate can be separated and retained on a Zodiac HST SB mixed-mode stationary phase column with embedded strong basic ion-pairing groups. The analysis utilizes a gradient method with a mobile phase consisting of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and ammonium formate (AmFm) as an ionic modifier. This method allows for UV detection at 260 nm with high resolution and peak symmetry and is compatible with Mass Spectrometry (MS), ELSD, and CAD.
