HPLC Analysis of Benzalkonium Chloride on Zodiac HST- SB Column

Benzalkonium chloride, also known as Zephiran or Alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, is a positively charged surfactant commonly used as a pharmaceutical preservative and antiseptic. Benzalkonium chloride can be retained on a Zodiac HST SB mixed-mode stationary phase column with embedded strong basic ion-pairing groups. The analysis employs a gradient method with a mobile phase consisting of water, acetonitrile (MeCN), and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) as an ionic modifier. This method allows for UV detection at 210 nm, providing high resolution and excellent peak symmetry.
