Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and acetic acid (AcOH) are widely used in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry. Their separation was achieved using the Zodiac HST N column, which utilizes a mixed-mode mechanism combining HILIC and anion-exchange interactions. This approach provides enhanced retention and improved peak shape for carboxylic acids. The addition of sulfuric acid to the mobile phase helps suppress the ionization of TFA, thereby boosting polar retention and optimizing chromatographic performance.
